House sitting

We found this amazing house sitting possibility for June in Lentillac-Saint-Blaise, Lot, Occitanie through Nomador, an international website that matches hosts with house sitters. If you want to contact more than three hosts, you have to pay a subscription fee which is not the cheapest you can find, but the site is very professionally done, and has a lot of hosts in France. Lot is one of the departments we have been curious to see whether might be the one for us or not, and keeping a house for a few days was a great way to get to know the area a bit better.

The sympathetic couple Pauline and her partner, who is also named Jean, made us feel very welcome with a delicious meal the evening before they went on their hiking holiday. Pipo, a charming border collie, and the cute cat Sia “adopted” us quickly, and we got lots of cuddles and time to play together. The fish minded themselves, except for when they tried to eat Jean’s tempting toes, and the pond frogs made sure we had live concerts every evening.

The small house is made of wood, which is rather uncommon in this area of France, for the most part you’ll find houses made of bricks, stones or concrete. The garden is based on permaculture principles, and Jean truly enjoyed taking care of it, with a bit of lawn mowing assistance from me.

On some of the photos you’ll see why photographers love sunsets; not so much for the sunset itself, but for the special light it gives to the surroundings.

The house owners graciously supplied us with loads of hiking tips and maps. Isn’t it wonderful? Thank you, Pauline and Jean, for this great opportunity.
